Snehana Oleation Treatment 

Snehana is a gentle and relaxing application of warmed, medicated oil to the skin.  Also called Abhyanga, this soothing, full-body treatment is appropriate for aggravated Vata and Pitta Doshas.

It balances aggravated Doshas by:

  • Calming the skin and nervous system where Vata tends to elevate
  • Soothing the fiery qualities of vitiated Pitta
  • Releasing toxins (ama) from the organs to the hollow structures for elimination
  • Lubricating the skin

When is this treatment used?

  • Only after it is recommended in your Consultation with a qualified Ayurveda professional
  • When you have ample time in your schedule and are not rushed

Shirodhara Oleation Treatment

Shirodhara is perhaps the most widely known Ayurvedic treatment. It is widely used during Panchakarma and in spas all over the world. This deeply calming treatment uses a stream of oil appropriate to the Dosha to send the recipient into a deeply relaxed, meditative state. Shirodhara is indicated for all vitiated Doshas, but is particularly effective for aggravated Vata. Clients will receive a brief (20-minute) Snehana massage to prepare the body to receive this treatment.

It balances aggravated Doshas by:

  • Inducing a meditative state
  • Relaxing the nervous system
  • Calming the mind

Basti Oleation Treatment

Basti is the application of a pool of warmed oil to a specific region of the body, usually on the back or chest. During this treatment, a pliable dough is formed around the area to be treated, building a pool that will hold the warmed liquid for several minutes.

It balances aggravated Doshas in specific areas by:

  • Applying the weight and heat of the oil to the affected area
  • Allowing absorption of the oil to the affected area for removal of toxins (ama)
